We had our annual summer Idaho Falls trip planned for the second week in June. Unfortunately Wyn got sick with hand, foot, and mouth disease and so we couldn't go to Idaho. We were bummed, and we now had a whole week that was open with nothing planned. I just couldn't sit back and stay home so I started searching the internet for adventures. I found out we could get a great deal on a room at the St. George resort where they filmed High School Musical 2. Stella and I have always wanted to go there and so I booked it. We invited Cali along as well so Stella could have a friend and fellow High School Musical fan to help her enjoy the adventure. In the end, this trip fully surprised me. We had more fun than I could have imagined.
The drive down went by fast for me, as I talked to Bree on the phone most of the way. Suddenly we were in St. George! We checked into our room and we could not believe our luck! Our room was just gorgeous. We were pretty hungry so we headed our for an early dinner at The Pizza Factory. Then we went back to our room and went to the amazing pool. It was kind of late, but still so hot out. The pool has not changed at all since the movie and it was so fun to be swimming in it. Although we were all a tad disappointed to see that they don't let you jump off of the rocks and that is basically taking away our opportunities for full movie reenactments away. Still, it was seriously the most beautiful desert night. I loved every single second we were there and I was so glad we had come. We made a video of the girls singing "Fabulous", and then continued to have our own fabulous time. That night we also headed out for Shaved Ice.
We took it easy that morning, heading to the lobby for a sweet roll and just kicking it finishing watching HSM2. After we finished the movie we went to the pool before it got too hot. Then we got ready and went to lunch at The Egg and I, which is one of my favorite places to eat that we don't have in Salt Lake anymore. I was SO excited to get my dressed greens with the best dressing ever, you would have thought I was going to do an extra flip when the waitress brought me out more greens for free. It was a real great moment in my life. Then we went back to the room so Vivi could have a nap.
One of the downsides of the whole trip is that it is brutally hot. You think you can suck it up and handle it, especially me, the desert lover, but it is really hard to be out in that kind of heat during the day. So even though it was a bit later when we headed over to the golf course to see a few more key movie locations it was still extremely hot. And the girls were troopers, but they still got burned out fast while we tried to get the perfect takes of our favorite scenes. One of the guys that was working there told us we could hang out as much as we wanted on the course, which was nice and lucky for us. We then wandered inside the building and found the resort front desk from the movie and where Sharpay pulls in and arrives. No one was around, but the girls were nervous the whole time that someone was going to come out and tell us that we couldn't be in there. Of course, I didn't care and I made them pose through their uncomfortableness. It was worth it of course.
We were staying close to Snow Canyon. I had never been there, and I was blown away with how beautiful is it was. It was also so quiet. It was like we were the only ones in the world while we were there and I loved every second of it. I thought it was so pretty and blew Zion National Park out of the water on prettiness. We took a little walk to a slot canyon and then another walk to where Pioneer names are written on the rocks. That was all we had time for before it got dark. But I loved it and I was even more convinced that I needed to live in St. George after our evening.
We had a late dinner at Wendy's and then we went over to a Sinclair gas station to get Dippin' Dots. To our surprise it was $2 Tuesdays and so it was a steal for all of us to get Dots. We may have had to sit down in a gas station parking lot to eat them, but it was worth it.
The next morning we got a late check out and we headed to the amazing pool one last time. I just could not get over how pretty it was there and how happy I was that we had made the effort to go on an adventure to somewhere we had never been. A last minute vacay is pretty much the best and this one was the tops. I left feeling happy that we already had enjoyed so much of our summer and we still had so much summer in our future. It was a great feeling.
